THE NEW LOOK VIGOR2830 SERIES

DrayTek’s ADSL2+ Vigor2830 series router is getting a bit of a revamp next month, with the introduction of single-band versions of Vigor2830n and Vigor2830Vn.

Previously, the series comprised of Vigor2830, Vigor2830n (wireless), and Vigor2830Vn (wireless and VoIP). As of the 1st of July 2011, the Vigor2830 series will include: Vigor2830, Vigor2830n, Vigor2830Vn, Vigor2830n+, and Vigor2830Vn+.

What’s the difference between the wireless ‘n’ models with the pluses (‘+’) and those without? Vigor2830n and Vigor2830Vn are single-band routers (2.4GHz) whilst Vigor2830n+ and Vigor2830Vn+ are dual-band routers (2.4GHz and 5GHz band). So, the original Vigor2830n and Vigor2830Vn have been renamed as Vigor2830n+ and Vigor2830Vn+ to make room for the new single-band entries which will be known as Vigor2830n and Vigor2830Vn.

This new variety of Vigor2830’s offers customers greater choice in selecting the most suitable wireless model. Aside from the new additions of single-band models and name changes, Vigor2830 series remains the same in its rock-solid performance and reliability.

The following product codes will be effective on July 1st 2011:

Vigor2830 - DV2830
Vigor2830n (Single-Band Wireless) - DV2830ns
Vigor2830n+ (Dual-Band Wireless) - DV2830np
Vigor2830Vn (Single-Band Wireless) - DV2830Vns
Vigor2830Vn+ (Dual-Band Wireless) - DV2830Vnp

To answer your questions:

Q) I purchased Vigor2830n/Vigor2830Vn before 1st of July 2011. Does this affect my device at all?

A) The introduction of new Vigor2830 models and changing of the name of the Vigor2830n/Vigor2830Vn to Vigor2830n+/Vigor2830Vn+ does not affect your hardware or firmware upgrades. The existing devices with Vigor2830n / Vigor2830Vn dual-band wireless will still be upgraded with dual-band firmware.

Q) How can I identify my unit is dual-band wireless or single-band wireless?

A) Look for the silver label on the outside packaging of the router. Single-band models will display the code ‘MODULE 6’:

Dual-band models will display the code ‘MODULE 8’:

Vigor2110n a Hit with NetCHEIF Mag

Sometimes when people say “you pay for what you get”, they may not be talking about getting good value. BUT when someone says about your product, “You pay for what you get… For its price, you get superior wireless performance, a wealth of features and many configuration possibilities”, you pretty safely take that as a compliment.

And that’s exactly what NetCHEIF Israel’s Lavi Shiffman had to say about our Vigor2110n. He also said “Vigor2110n can as well fit those advanced home users, who are searching for such advanced features” See the rest of the review here.

Vigor2110n is a 4 port 802.11n wireless router perfect for SOHO users and is complete with secure network management (Firewall & CSM), bandwidth management (QoS, Session Limitation & Bandwidth Control), remote data access (VPN) and advanced wireless technology (IEEE 802.11n standard WLAN).

DrayTek on Wheels in the Netherlands

Here’s something different – last month Xpert Data, a DrayTek distributor from the Benelux economic union of the Netherlands organised a bus tour around Netherlands, visiting DrayTek resellers all around the country in a revamped and hi-tech-pimped American school bus. But why?, I hear you exclaim with surprise and bemusement… Well, to present DrayTek’s latest products and technologies of course!

The Xpert Data crew executed live demonstrations of selected models and software including VigorACS SI central management system, to show resellers just how simple and effective they are to use. The tour, the Draytek High Speed Tour 2011, also offered customers a sneak peak at Vigor2900 and Vigor2850 which are rumoured to be released later this year in selected countries.

Meanwhile, in London…

Meanwhile, in London, UK DrayTek distributor SEG showcased our routers and our new range of IP PBX solutions at two key UK industry events, Unified Communications Expo 2011 and Insight Technology Show 2011. The shows, which were on in March, were also a great forum for the launch of DrayTek’s new ADSL2/2+ routers, Vigor2830 series.

With the latest Vigor2830 series, DrayTek has taken their proven recipe for the award-winning Vigor2820 series to a whole new level. The highly-refined Vigor2830 series comprising of Vigor2830, Vigor2830n (wireless) and Vigor2830Vn (wireless and VoIP), is embedded with one ADSL2/2+ WAN port, one Gigabit Ethernet WAN port and one USB port for 3.5G USB modem.

Meet VigorAP 800

I just wanted to speak to you quickly about this brilliant little device we have called VigorAP 800. Today, wireless networks are a common thing in households, and increasingly in workplaces. They’re convenient, and things can certainly be a lot tidier with wires involved. On the downside however, wireless networks can suffer due to things like poor signal strength, or interferences in the vicinity of the network.

DrayTek’s VigorAP 800 is a PoE enabled wireless access point which you hook up to your router to either add wireless connectivity to your existing LAN or to boost/extend your home or office wireless network.
The compact standalone device is not to be underestimated, with the next generation 802.11n wireless standard it can achieve faster speeds and better range using advanced MIMO technology. MIMO technology utilises multiple ‘smart’ transmitters and receivers to transfer more data at the same time.

VigorAP 800 also optimises traffic flow using WMM (Wi-Fi Multimedia) technology which defines Quality of Service in the wireless network. WMM prioritises data traffic to ensure more time-critical audio, video or voice applications are processed seamlessly through the wireless network. AND AP 800 also supports WDS (Wireless Distribution System), which can extend wireless coverage!

To protect your wireless network, this clever little device employs a multi-level security approach via WEP/WPA/ WPA2 data encryption, MAC authentication, and 802.1x RADIUS support.

So that’s just a little bit about that.. It may be the answer you’re looking for if your wireless network is just not cutting it at the moment. Check it out here.

Our participation in the event highlighted the cutting-edge innovation of DrayTek routers, and put the DrayTek brand in the spotlight as a leader of the industry.

Vigor3200 Impresses PC World VN

This month PC World Vietnam’s Khai Huynh has previewed DrayTek’s Vigor3200. Vigor3200 series is DrayTek’s latest Quad-WAN Gigabit High-Speed Security router that has been specifically designed to meet the network requirements of small to medium business networks. The Vigor3200 series which comprises of Vigor3200 and Vigor3200n (with IEEE 802.11n wireless) features a 4-port Gigabit WAN and 1 Gigabit LAN port. Its Multi-Subnet interface with Multi-VLAN function allows users to allocate network functions and resources between workgroups more easily.

The June article, which can be read here, highlights the flexibility of the 3200’s firewall measures that can be modified easily to create firewall policies. Huynh found the security structures to be easily configurable using the ‘familiar’ web interface which allows users to create policy profiles for each of the measures including application and content-based filters, with the options to apply them based on individual users or across user groups.

Huynh was also a fan of the load balancing feature which supports 4 WAN lines and which works with VPN connections. Huynh tested 4 internet connections (2Mbps line) with 1 PC using NetPerSec Software, resulted in 7.7Mbps. PC World also tested DrayTek’s maximum WAN bandwidth claim of 140Mbps, and reached an impressive maximum bandwidth of 184.7Mbps.
